Overview

Clear ownership is fundamental to maintaining a healthy software catalog. Whether you’re planning future development, responding to incidents, or managing costs, knowing exactly who is responsible for each component is crucial. Effective ownership tracking can:

  • Reduce incident response times
  • Improve resource allocation
  • Strengthen accountability
  • Enhance cross-team collaboration

Managing Ownership

Tempest provides ownership management at two key levels:

  • Resource Ownership: Resources can be assigned to specific owners who are responsible for their management and maintenance
  • Project Ownership: Projects can be assigned owners who oversee the overall project and its resources

Types of Owners

Authors

Authors are automatically assigned when content is created in Tempest:

  • Automatically tracked for all projects and recipes
  • Maintains historical record of original creators
  • Helps track provenance of infrastructure changes

Teams

Teams provide organized ownership structures for projects and recipes:

  • Collection of users with shared responsibilities
  • Can be assigned to multiple projects and recipes
  • Each team can designate a Team Lead
  • Team Leads serve as primary points of contact
  • Lead contact information is displayed in project details
