Import and track your existing resources

Importing resources allows you to integrate your existing services into Tempest, giving you centralized management and visibility across your entire stack. This enables you to track service health and monitor metrics and events for all services, even if they were not originally deployed in Tempest.

How Import Policies Work

Importing resources is managed through Import Policies, which define what resources are synchronized with Tempest. Import Policies remain up-to-date with your resource provider, ensuring that any changes made to resources outside of Tempest are automatically reflected within the platform. This ensures you always have the most current view of your resources.

  • Multiple Policies: You can create multiple import policies for each resource provider, allowing for flexibility in managing different types of resources.

Setting Up Your First Import Policy

To create your first import policy, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Resources › Import Policies.
  2. Select the resource provider you want to create a policy for.
  3. Link your credentials (See [Connecting Credentials] for more details).
  4. Choose what to import for the selected provider:
    • Everything: Import all resources for this provider.
    • Resources by type: Select specific resource types to import. Multiple types can be included in one policy.
    • Individual resources: Import only selected resources for this provider.

Note: Some policies are scoped by elements of the type of resource. For example, for Kubernetes resources, we’ll ask for you to select a namespace. Your import policy will only impact the resources for that namespace, and your credentials will be scoped to that specific namespace.

Managing Resources and Import Policies

Once your policies are configured, you can:

  • View and manage individual resources in the Resources tab.
  • View and manage your policies under Resources › Import Policies.
